Our Home

Hi there,

We wanted to share our house with you! Jas and I spend most of our time here as we both work from home so wanted a creative space that will inspire us and relax us, and I think we were quite successful in achieving this!

Below are before and after pictures.

Family room

Before

For the living room we really liked the idea of black and white stripes, but not your normal evenly spaced stripes. As the walls are lovely and high we wanted to accentuate them by splitting them into sections. After hours of drawing and mathematical equations we decided on three sections divided by two thicker accent lines that would also incorporate the height of the hanging lights. The black stripes on lower section decrease in thickness using the concept of ‘God’s ratio’ or the ‘Golden ratio’. The other two sections we evenly divided into 5 and 2.

The lights were all custom built to perfectly compliment the design of the room and all light the floor as well as the ceiling. We also built custom picture rails to avoid hanging and placing individual frames and this way we can layer the images, prints, photos against each other.

AF Office

Before

downstairs-bedroom

Jas’s needed a space in the house for his day job and Absolute Focus business so we converted the downstairs bedroom in to his office. His main requirements were, a whiteboard to plan and think out ideas and lots of desk space for computers! We clad one of the walls with laminate and coated it with a special resin and boom! awesome huge writing board. To continue the wood theme we custom built his desk that wraps around the remaining three walls and covered it in the same laminate. Red accents were used though out the room to bring colour and interest to cream paint, the door was changed to a glass door and the carpet was replaced with slate tiling. Posters and prints will eventually also find their way on to the walls one day…!

Downstairs bathroom

Before

Not much was done in the downstairs bathroom apart from brightening it up with yellow paint and continuing the already there black theme of the cabinets through in to the coving and door.

Laundry room

Before

laundry-room

Some fun was had with the laundry room, the lovely aqua paint was used as a base for laundry symbols which I custom designed and stenciled on to the wall. Can you guess what they mean?? Btw, all the doors in the house are a different colour, easier to direct guests and white doors are boring!

Dining room

Before

family-room

The previous owners had this room as their living room but we changed it to the dining room because the kitchen is directly opposite! And TV’s above the fireplace make our necks hurt! I really wanted Moroccan lights in the house somewhere and here was the perfect place! The large light in the middle I bought from a Moroccan market and the others I found on sale here in the USA. The room was painted yellow and the gray is an accent from the colour painted in the kitchen. We took out the large cabinets on the right to give us room for our awesome custom build dining table! The table seats 8-10 guests and has two height settings, one for sitting on the floor and the other for sitting with chairs and is usually set for sitting on the floor. Again we have more picture rails set in a gray rectangle to frame them and compliment the opposing windows.

AF Studio

Before

patio

We converted the patio into our recording studio. We cleaned it all up to take this picture but usually there are wires, mic’s and acoustic panels everywhere! We also this use for live music performances and went nuts with the lights which give a really lovely atmosphere.

Master bedroom

Before

master-bathroom

We went for a clean look in the master bedroom. I wanted a red room but knowing that it is quite a powerful colour I offset it with the white to really make good use of such a strong tone. We also sanded and painted the cabinets white to give them a new life.

Nursery

Before

boys-bedroom

The nursery was tough, because we didn’t really want a typical flowers on the wall with a’ princess castle’ on pink walls for our little girl. I hate the fact that girls are force fed to like pink! and we wanted to be able to customise it as she grows older without having to repaint it again. So, with that in mind and a little knowledge of colour theory we went for a soothing dirty mauve colour with white and gray accents. The mauve tone relating to spirituality and calmness, with the gray and white added for accent and sophistication. We put up Mark Rothko prints because he is one of my favorite artists and has the most amazing colour pallet, with each print introducing colours that relate to happiness, determination, creativity, confidence and calmness.

Prayer room

Before

girls-bedroom

Jaswinder is from a spiritual family and felt that he gained a lot from growing up in that atmosphere and wanted to create it in his own home. We converted one of the bedrooms into a prayer room which is where we have our Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the sacred text of the Sikhs. We went for a spiritually pure white room with orange and gold accents. The structures were all custom built into the corner of the room adjacent to the entry. This serves two purposes: it is the first thing you face when entering the room and it leaves space for up quite a few people to gather round. The circle shape was used to represent the Oneness. Also in the room is an area where the Holy Text sits at night. The lights in the room center on the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
